Bungawitta was established in 1986 to meet the needs of the families who lived and/or worked in the local community. Our proximity to the University, Maritime College and TAFE means that our families come from all over the greater Launceston area.

The building created quite a stir in 1986 because of its unique child-focussed design and its architect — Robert Morris-Nunn — was the recipient of a major architectural award at the time of the buildings opening.

Bungawitta is proud to be a community-based child care centre and is currently licensed for 47 children per day. The centre has been supported by a Board of Management made up of parents from the centre and at times other community members.

Bungawitta Board of Governance has identified ongoing professional development of our educators as a priority to ensure that we continue to deliver innovative programs to the children.
